DIY Homemade Hand & Body Scrub Recipe

homemade body scrub

Hand & Body Scrub is one of those items I can’t go without. Simply because it makes your skin feel and look clean, moist… and therefore the healthy glow. I’m talking hands, body and face and even feet. All year round, winters dry out our skin and we tend to appear flaky, dry, dull looking… who wants that right? In the summer, even though the humidity keeps the skin moist but still the skins natural renewal cycle leaves us with skin flaking off every couple of days. And to maintain the summer skin and glowing we must exfoliate. So why does it makes sense all year to take good care of our skin? So we can feel refreshed and radiant and young looking by removing the dead cells from the skin that are no longer useful and by doing we are uncovering the new, radiant and glowing skin.

Dry skinWe’ve all been taught that basic formula for clear and beautiful skin, which is proper cleansing. And that fact is true… but also flawless skin requires regular exfoliation. Throughout the day, month and year, your skin goes through a number of changes and adapting to the changing seasons, the everyday dirt and dust and heat. Yet many of us make the common mistake of ignoring the troubles our skin goes through, and as a result we see dull, saggy and rough skin.

Exfoliated skinWhen trying to achieve smooth and shiny skin all year round, exfoliation should be your weekly routine. Especially if you suffer from acne, blemishes and other marks on your skin. Exfoliating regularly will help prevent these problems due to deep pore cleansing. I mentioned weekly earlier, but truly I regularly exfoliate twice a week, not more often however, as it may irritate the skin most likely. We need to give our skin at least 48 to 72 hours before helping it to shed the dead skin cells.

My Homemade Body Scrub Recipe

Here, I want to share with you my favorite (DIY) Do It Yourself at home recipe that I love to make when I have the time. It is so simple, natural quick and easy.

All ingredients are most likely already in your kitchen:

Sea Salts sea saltGrainy Brown Sugar

(white sugar is also good if you don’t have brown)

brown sugar                                          Honeyhoney

                                                   Squeezed Lemon Juice

squeezed lemon juice

Mixing it all together

On average for 1 time use I mix 2 table spoons of Sea Salt + 2 table spoons of Brown Sugar + 0.25 cup of honey + juice from half a lemon. But you can do as you please and figure it out as you go.

*For an ultimate Aroma Therapy experience you may add Pure Essential Oils of your choice to this mixture… Enjoy!

Purpose and use

This mixture is perfect to use while in the shower to exfoliate and detox your whole body including heals, hands, elbows and knees… perfect prior to shaving for that close shave whether for ladies or men (for facial exfoliation try not to overdo as it is a part of the skin that is much thinner and more sensitive).

So here is it, your own home made, very affordable and best part ALL NATURAL Hand & Body Scrub. I hope you try this and let me know how it went.

  • Smoothing of skin texture by deep cleansing
  • Eliminating dead, dull and dry skin to improve skins appearance
  • Eliminating black heads, bacteria which can cause fungal infections of the skin (sea salt & lemon act as disinfecting, healing agents)
  • Eliminating ingrown hair
  • Helps control acne
  • Lemon (vitamin C) helps with even skin tone, improving hydration, skin looks younger, firmer and clearer

  1. Sometimes I think I am so lazy. I love to read posts like these, I get all pumped up, yes I’m gonna try this, I have all the ingredients but then I only find myself taking care of my skin only on special occasions like my birthday, a date etc. I do need to start taking care of my skin at least weekly as u said. I’m getting older and would like to have the “perfect skin” for my age. 🙂 I’m gonna try this scrub over the weekend when I have the time. You always write interesting contents….keep it up!

    1. Hi Sara

I know it’s hard to make time to take care of ourselves, it’s all about priorities and to each their own. Let me know how the scrub works out for you… and thank you for your kind words. I’m glad you enjoy my posts.

  2. This looks like a very easy and practical way to clean and exfoliate the skin. Honey is very good to skin and it is also a disinfecting and healing agent. After you have made the body scrub how do you use it and for how long? How do you remove it from your skin? I will be waiting for your answer, I want to try it.

    1. Hi Ruben

Thank you for visiting. Yes, simply mix the ingredients in a small dish or container (kitchen bowl will do). If you’re not going to use it right away I suggest you keep it refrigerated until you’re ready to use. Best is in the shower before soaping. Take a small amount of the scrub into your hands and scrub your body in circular motion. Rinse with warm shower water and cleanse as usual. Hope this helps Ruben, let me know how this works out for you.

  3. Very interesting. My wife has some of the softest skin I have ever known. This sounds like a good way to revive your skin tremendously. I like it because it is a natural way. I won’t disclose what my wife has been doing for years but it was much like this. But she only used two things that everybody uses every day. I will say the lotion is one and it is an important part of it.

  4. Can’t wait to try this. I’ve been suffering from flaking skin and usual chemist creams don’t agree with me. Alway looking for natural alternatives.
Do you think coconut oil works well for dry skin?

    1. Hi Vince

Yes, yes to coconut oil. In fact you can add it to my existing recipe or substitute the honey for coconut oil. Just make sure that it is virgin oil and smells like coconut. That means it’s natural. This will actually make the mixture more moisturizing which is perfect for extra dry skin. GO for it!

  5. Wow! I didn’t know we can make homemade hand and body scrub!

I have two large packets of Himalayan sea salts lying around for many months now. And I am going to give this a try! Would love to make my face look brighter and also scrub off dead skin from my body.

Many thanks for this great post and tip!
