Since my early teens, I worshiped the sun and took any opportunity to sunbathe just to get that golden glow tan. And when puberty hit I believed that the sun will help zap and dry out my acne breakouts. Hahah, as a result in my mid 20’s I started to see dark spots on my body but face especially as well as some acne scaring which obviously were not appealing and I wanted them to be gone!
“The most common cause for brown spots is sun damage and usually appears on areas of the skin that are naturally exposed to the sun, such as the face, back and arms. … They can cause existing brown spots to darken or cause new ones. This skin condition is called melasma”
“Acne scars are the result of tissue damage caused by inflammatory acne“. Unhealed acne if exposed to sun, will result in darkening of the skin (dark spots) in that effected area.
As I searched for answers, I heard that Microdermabrasion (cosmetic treatment in which the face is sprayed with exfoliant crystals to remove dead epidermal cells) was an effective but expensive ongoing treatment to pursue potentially, but I still wanted to find a more affordable, less complex solution. I came across a cream that promised to brighten the dark spots on my face if used daily, but the 8% glycolic acid (a chemical which once applied to skin, reacts with the upper layer of the epidermis, weakening the binding properties of the lipids that hold the dead skin cells together. This allows the stratum corneum to be exfoliated, exposing live skin cells) was irritating to my sensitive skin and had to discontinue use. Then I was told the only way to get rid of the unwanted hyperpigmentation (common condition in which patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin mainly due to injury such as cuts or sunburn, or other causes of inflammation like acne) was a Photo Facial (a 30-minute procedure in which intense pulses of laser light are used to penetrate deep into the skin causing collagen and blood vessels below the epidermis to constrict, reducing redness, dark spots and age lines) yet another expensive treatment that I wasn’t too keen on. I knew that exfoliating (removal of the oldest dead skin cells on the skin’s outermost surface) your skin was always a great way to get rid of dead, dull skin, clean pores and prevent breakouts so I went on using facial scrubs hoping that this will help. And it may have to some degree but still did not get the results I wanted.
It wasn’t till I was introduced to Arbonne Skin Care, where I bought my first full RE9 Advanced set of Anti-Aging products. The addition to this set was the Arbonne Intelligence® Genius Nightly Resurfacing Pads and Resurfacing Solution and at the time I had no idea what it was, and what it was supposed to do. But anyway, I read the instructions and started to use it as an exfoliator before applying any of the RE9 skin care regimen. I quickly realized what a huge difference these pads made in the way my skin felt and looked.
It took me a few days to see significant changes, but after 1 week I noticed that my face was looking more evenly toned, less spotty and more glowy. I stopped wearing makeup foundation on daily basis because I felt more comfortable to show off my natural look, since for the first time in a long time it was less blotchy. I was thrilled to say the least, and shortly had my Mom and Mother In-law hooked on this Genius in a jar as well. It was literally Genius… like a mini Facial, or a mini Microdermabrasion session in my own home. The pads feel slightly rough but gentle enough to use on your delicate skin. I use it to gain elasticity and firmness on my face significantly reducing the look of dark spots, acne scars and preventing wrinkles (which thankfully I don’t have many). This treatment will remove the dead, rough layer of skin to help the appearance of a smooth & toned skin. It will take about a week or two, but if used regularly (however, no more than 2 times a week as you want to give your skin time in between to turn-over and re-grow) you will see overall improvement with scars, brown spots and wrinkles. I swear by this product. My best advice, (since I’ve been using the Genius Pads for over a year now)… use it every other day at first, you will see results quickly that way as you’ll be sweepping away dead skin layers. Once you get the hang of it I would recommend 2 times a week giving 3-4 days break in between, your skin will now be in a better shape and such frequent use is not necessary. For best results I recommend to finish your treatment off with either the Arbonne Intelligence Rejuvenating Cream or the Anti-Aging Arbonne RE9 Advanced Restorative Cream
