How I Lost My Post Baby Belly, with the help of Plant Based Protein Meal Replacement

Waist Line Image

It’s not easy to find the time to exercise after having a baby. However, it was the only way for me to try and Loose my Post Baby Belly after having my second baby, Mateo. I quickly realized that exercise alone was not helping, because I found myself eating as if I was still pregnant!!! Sound familiar?

My day would start with a cup of double-double, no breakfast as there was too much to do around my son I completely ignored my hunger. By lunch, I’d be so hungry that I would eat too much per one sitting. And I would eat whatever I could get my hands on (left-over cake in the fridge is one example) as long as I could get something in my system fast to fill me up. Mostly foods that don’t need much to prepare, yet are high in carbs and/or easy to buy on the drive-thru. Yup!… not healthy at all. Don’t get me wrong I wasn’t much over weight, just not happy with my body and I knew if I kept going this way I will only look worse and eventually have health issues. Around dinner time (I was most hungry) is when I would find myself eating bigger servings than my husband. I was over-eating, because I didn’t have the right plan in motion which should start from the beginning of the day. I made sure that my son is fed, changed, house is cleaned, laundry is done etc. But I wasn’t taking the time to look after ME!

I could not believe that my appetite was sky rocking so late in the day, (as if I was still pregnant) rather than calming down after having my baby #2. It was just the opposite of when I had my first born, back when I was 20 years old. Not only did I lose the weight back then in 7 short months back then, I hardly had to exercise but at the same time I hardly ate. Call it hormonal changes, or getting older I don’t know… but my eating habits and the amounts of it had to STOP NOW!

I was inspired by EMILY SKYE and did some of her toning exercises at home while my son would sleep or right there in front of him, and also came up with a daily schedule for acitivities, house cleaning, and a well calculated meal plan. An organized lifestyle and daily routine was key. A friend recommended that aside from my exercise plan and home-made healthy meals which now consisted of much more fruit, greens, fish and chicken and more water than I would like to consume, I needed a Once a Day Meal Replacement as I found myself skipping a meal during mid-day, and then over-eating during next meal time therefore the cravings. The meal replacement came in handy because of my limited time to make a meal, or if I was on the go with my little guy. It was so simple to make less than 2 min. Add protein meal replacement powder to water in your shake-mixer cup, then shake & go. It was delicious and made me feel full for up to 4 hours, while providing all necessary vitamins & nutrients to my body. No more skipping a meal. Sometimes I would do this for breakfast, but mostly at lunch.

It is important to have 3 simple healthy meals a day and healthy snacks and water in between + exercise. So here’s what I did:

First thing in the morning: 500ml warm water with 1 fresh squeezed lemon juice (lemon with water will help to kick-start your metabolism early in the day, also great for cleansing of liver and kidneys)

Breakfast: 2 soft boiled eggs, 1 slice of 12 grain toast with Light Cream Cheese, 1 sliced tomato. Coffee, 1 sugar, 1 cream.

Exercise: 1 hour walk at fast pace, or 30 min on elliptical, or 1 hr Yoga/Pilates. (each day I chose 1 of the 3)

*Drink water infused with lemon or any fruit of choice.

Lunch: 1 serving of Arbonne Essentials® Protein Shake Mix Meal Replacement, Chocolate or Vanilla. (protein powder mixed with water, fruit may be added but not necessary) by adding this to my daily meal plan, the protein shake replaced a nutritional meal, and also kept me feeling full and free of cravings for junk food.

Shake up your daily routine with a Delicious Chocolate or Vanilla shake that delivers 20 grams of Vegan Protein, plus 22 Essential Vitamins and Minerals per serving.

Snack: Fruit salad, or tuna salad with kale and olive oil occasionally adding some grains like quinoa.

*Drink water infused with lemon or any fruit of choice.

Dinner: Grilled chicken or salmon (here I stayed away from any red meats) with a handful of basmati rice.

*Drink water infused with lemon or any fruit of choice.

Before bed: A bowl of cheerios with 2% milk, and always a glass of water on my night stand.

Weekends: is where I allowed a little cheat time, which may have included a glass of wine, dessert etc.

I’m not one for weighing myself on a scale, therefore I can’t tell you if I lost in LBS and how much. To me it was more important to loose inches around my waist and improve muscle tone. Eating well regularly, drinking more water and incorporating a Balanced Meal Replacement Once Daily showed significant results. In fact as soon as 2 months (see below) I was able to see improvement.

Beafore & After Results of Agnes with and without Baby Belly

Nothing is better the a wholesome meal made up of real fruit, vegetables, grains and well selected fish & meats. But we don’t always have the leisure of time to make this happen. Coming up with alternatives is also not easy, we don’t always know what is healthy and what works and don’t always have the time to find out. I found this product worked very well for me, and therefore Im sharing it with you in case you are looking for solutions to your daily nutrition plan or maybe you’re in a more advanced state and would prefer to see what level of performance nutrition I am going to be trying next. 1. wow, thank you so much for sharing and your results are amazing! You have certainly inspired me to give Arbonne a try, it sounds like a great meal replacement. Would this work with a fasting diet? I’m doing the 16 hour fast and eating within an 8 hour time period each day which works for me. Cheers, Karen

    1. Hi Karen
Thank you for your positive feedback. To answer your question, I guess it depends on the reason you are fasting? This is a vegan & gluten free formula so it is perfect for fasting, cleansing and keeping your calorie intake in check. It keeps you full for up to 4 hours per serving. It worked out well for me because it helped me control my appetite with only 230 calories per serving. It would be great for fasting if your goal is to stay away from meats and dairy, definitley.

  2. Woow, such a transformation.
I too, into healthy life style. Used to use quite alot on the protein drinks at home and/or at the gym prior to my big move to another city…now I have gained some weights back due to lack of exercise and missed my favorite protein drinks from the juice bar at the gym.

By the way, I can’t find whether this is organic, do you know if this protein power organic and/or Non-GMO that you know of?

    1. Hi Pamela

Thank you for sharing,  buying protein drinks at the gym must of been pricey? I used to do that as well long time ago. Each dring was $5 + ….It’s definitely more cost effective to be buying for expl; 30 servings bag and do it yourself I find.

To answer your question: Arbonne is not certified organic, they are Botanically based | Vegan-formulated | Gluten Free | Dermatologist-tested | Allergy-tested | Clinically tested. Also, Arbonne does not use animal products or by-products | artificial flavours | artificial sweeteners | benzene | bisphenol-a | carbon black | formaldehyde-donating preservatives | hydroquinone | mineral oil | parabens | petrolatum | phthalates | sodium laureth sulfates (SLES) | sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) | synthetic dyes | talc | triclosan | triethanolamine (TEA) And so much more …

      I hope this was helpful.

  3. What great result Agnes. You look amazing.

Arbonne Essentials sure has a complete range of nutrients and vitamins. Do you think it can be used as a daily vitamin supplement?

    Which was your preferred flavor?

    1. Hi Vince
Thank you, I try to stay healthy no matter how busy I am. I love both chocolate and vanilla flavors, but seem to be using the vanilla one more often. They are both great tasting.
If you’re looking for vitamin supplement, the meal replacement has a great range if vitamins & minerals only enough for that one meal. So for a full day range I would recommend Arbonne Essentials Daily Power Packs for Men/Women. They contain 5 supplements with multivitamins, multiminerals, probiotics and enzymes, along with bone health and antioxidant formulas targeted to address men’s and women’s individual needs. I use them as well, I will be blogging abouth it in the near future.
I hope this was helpful Vince, Im always here for Q&A. Have a great weekend.

  4. Thanks Agnes for this post. I am sending it over to my sister. She just had a baby a few days ago; her third child. I remember her saying that of the three pregnancies, this is the biggest her stomach has been. She is a bit worried that I won’t go down. I believe the last two occasions she used a tight wrap around her stomach and did some exercise but nothing to really talk about. So I will send her this routine and diet plan that will certainly help her out.

    Thanks for sharing.

  5. This is a great article because protein is so important for our body to function properly. Most people don’t get enough protein. It has some great weight loss benefits and this replacement meal is a good idea for weight loss

  6. What a great article – I love it that you have first-hand experience of using these meal replacements and you have found they really work for you. I like the fact you have laid out exactly what is in the shake and explained clearly how you take them as well.

I know a few friends who have really struggled with post-baby weight, this does sound like a very good solution! I’ll be pointing them to your website!

  7. Getting back in shape is the biggest challenge for every woman after giving birth. I mean, who doesn’t want to look fab after delivery?

You got really amazing results. It’s just proof that it does work. And it comes in chocolate and vanilla flavours, that’s great! I’m gonna recommend Arbonne Essentials to my friend who still look pregnant even when her last child is already 3 years old.

Oh by the way, does this work with women who did not necessarily give birth but want to get rid of their belly fats?

    1. Hi Alice, Arbonne Essentials Meal Replacement is great for anyone at any age (even for those who are dairy & gluten intolerant). It’s for those trying to lose weight, tone muscle or simply substitute a meal because you’re on the go, but still need to eat. It basically helps prevent over eating yet providing your body with just the right amount of protein, carbohydrates, fats, calories, vitamins and minerals and keep you full for up to 4 hours. I personally used this to help me shed weight because I wasn’t eating well balanced meals and I was skipping meals too, which resulted in weight gain as my body was storing more fat as a result. Now that I got the results I wanted, I continue to use this Protein Shake to keep up what I worked so hard on to achieve. Some days I will have 1 serving for breakfast and another one between lunch and dinner. This way I make sure I don’t eat a big portion for dinner (which may contain too many carbs that my body doesn’t need) because I will be full and therefore you start to shed weight and inches. And don’t forget excersise, that helps. But sticking to this Protein Shake alone will also show results, as you’re changing eating habbits.
      I hope this helps 🙂

  8. I have never tried plant based protein, I always use whey protein. I have been hearing more about alternatives to dairy protein. Was there a particular reason you chose a plant based protein vs whey or other protein? I know a lot of people have issues with dairy, so this is definitely a great option. I have a protein shake for breakfast every day. It’s a great way to start the day and is so much more satisfying than say a bowl of cereal. I put greens in my smoothie as well, so I make sure to start the day on a good note. One thing I found interesting about your article, that doesn’t have anything to do with protein powder is the mention of adding citrus to your water. Besides adding flavor, does the citrus help with weight loss? Thank you for sharing, this is very informative.

    1. Hi Steve & Kris
I also used to use Whey Protein in the past but I have noticed a difference when I used this particular one from Arbonne Essentials… I wasn’t getting bloated. For some reason Whey protein bloated me uncomfortably( I could of been allergic to some of it’s ingredient possibly), so naturally I switched and also it tasted better in my opinion. It is definitely a safe formula for those with gluten & diary allergies that’s a huge BONUS, this is why it is very popular as well. As for the Lemon & Water question… lemon with water will help to kick-start your metabolism early in the day, also great for cleansing of liver and kidneys. I live by this, it helps me with my bathroom routine heheh… plus it hydrates your body which is key for great metabolism and flushing out toxins. I hope this answers your questions 🙂

  9. Wow! Wow! This is a very interesting read. I have been trying to lose baby fat too and I got entangled in the lose baby fat cycle. I hit the gym after delivery and regained my body only to get the weight back in two years when I was already pregnant with baby number two. I will try this plant based protein meal replacement.
